Keep in mind the following while looking through the pile o’ books:
DEAL LOCALLY WITH FOLKS YOU CAN MEET IN PERSON – try to find listings that are local and that you can easily meet up with the seller/buyer to sell/buy the item.
NEVER AGREE TO SHIP YOUR ITEM – it might seem like the buyer has made his payment, which might compel you to send the item, only to find out later that the payment has not cleared and it’s too late.
NEVER WIRE FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION, MONEYGRAM – these are very common fraudulent practices on well known sites like eBay.com, craigslist.com, etc.
BOOKSOMANIAC IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION, and does not handle payments, guarantee transactions, provide escrow services, or offer “buyer protection” or “seller certification”
NEVER GIVE OUT FINANCIAL INFORMATION (bank account number, social security number, eBay/PayPal info, etc.)
FAKE CASHIER CHECKS & MONEY ORDERS ARE COMMON – banks will cash them and hold you responsible for them when the fake is discovered later.
AVOID DEALS INVOLVING ESCROW SERVICES
Keep in mind that you are meeting a stranger and follow the customary precautions that are to be taken like:
- Insist on meeting up in the morning or a well-lit public meeting place like a cafe
- Let a friend or family member know of your upcoming encounter
- Try to get a friend to go with you
- Have you cell phone at all times
- Trust your gut or instincts
