I am a journalist, editor and self-help author. One of the nicest things I’ve ever heard said about me is “she inspires people to discover and explore greater dimensions of themselves.” That is a wonderful thing to have said about oneself and it keeps me humble, in check, and on point.
My early writing career began as a hard-nosed journalist covering cops, courts, and crime stories as a reporter for The Baltimore Sun. Years later, I got a chance to exercise my informed opinions as an editorial writer and political columnist for The Washington Times. I also did the television rounds as a news talking head long before the 24/7 era of “if it moves its news.”
During those 20 years working for daily newspapers, I was rewarded with numerous first-place writing awards and honors, including nomination as a Harvard Neiman Fellow and acceptance as a Knight Journalism Fellow at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Later, in a career switch, I had the distinction of working as one of the writers on the Democratic National Committee speech writing teams for the John Kerry and Barack Obama Conventions in 2004, 2008 and 2012. What an experience that was helping to turn talking points into memorable phrases and being in the thick of things while history was being made.
Over the years, I expanded my writing and authored five non-fiction self-help books, published Renovating Woman, a home improvement magazine I created and personally stretched to heights I could never have imagined without having taken those necessary entrepreneurial risks.
Since 1994, I have been heading my own enterprise, providing communications solutions, editing, ghostwriting, and manuscript consultation to individuals and entities. Having built a reputation as a trusted self-help resource in my Renovating Woman persona in media, I enjoyed a real fun assignment when the Baltimore Gas and Electric company tapped me for commercials showing consumers how to save energy and money.
My fourth book, Constantly Commenting A Fountain of Youth for the Aging Brain, is now available as an e-book at Amazon.com.
My fifth book, 12 Steps to Self-Publishing Success, is available right here at allegrabennett.com. Both books have a back story you might find personally empowering and I won’t fail to share them with you over time within the blogs.
